With the help of a computer hacker, an obsessive gambler and a packet of Rice Crispies, Neil Pavitt has constructed an ingenious little comedy, topped off with a cunningly tricksy ending.
An inveterate punter on the nags, whose skill as a tipster is sabotaged by cruel luck, comes up with a scam, using a million email addresses his flat mate has nicked off the web. If all goes according to plan, both should be richer to the tune of 20,000 big ones.
The optimist knows they're onto a winner. The pessimist hedges his bets. The little old lady, enticed into the sheme, is scuppered by her ex-police hubby. The result? Eighteen months inside.
The performance by Scott Fleming, Jack Stevenson and Daphne Neville are a joy. Daniel Outram directs in the style of Charles (A Fish Called Wanda) Crichton, controlling the farcical elements in favour of character developement and consistency.
Odds on, you'll laugh.
